Description

This galaxy pair is located 180 million light years away in the constellation of Virgo at a declination of -1 degrees.  I do not see any interaction between them, so although the data says that they are at the same distance, they could be a few million light years apart.

NGC 5211 is a magnitude 13 face-on spiral galaxy that spans 1.8 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 100,000 light years.  It has a bright core, a faint bar, and a strong oval yellow inner lens.  From each end of the lens, an arm extends out just over 180 degrees, forming a nice R1' pseudo-ring with the opposite arm.

UGC 8526 is a lenticular galaxy that is inclined to our view about halfway between face-on and edge-on.  It is only 40,000 light years in diameter.

This is the second image of these objects on Astrobin.
